The car accident-rear end collision
Rear-end collision is one of the most common types of car accidents and often results in serious injuries for the occupants of the struck vehicle. In April 2010, a man was stopped at an intersection in his car waiting to turn left when the car behind him was rear-ended and his car was hit in the process.
The victim’s injuries from the car accident
He suffered a back injury that resulted in chronic lower back pain. Injuries led to a life of isolation and minimal movement. He worked as a letter carrier for Canada post prior to the accident. Due to his injuries, he was provided modifications for work on shorter delivery routes. He eventually transitioned to a sorting clerk which is a job that requires minimal movement.
The judge on the case determined that his injuries from the rear-end collision were permanent. Furthermore, the injuries caused him serious impairment to his functioning. He could no longer work as much or do the same job. He also used to be very active physically and in his social life but since the accident that has changed.
Compensation for victim
He was awarded general damages in the amount of $70,000 which was reduced to $40,000 because of the MVA deductible. He received an additional $57,250 for future care costs, $85,000 for loss of housekeeping, $58,000 for past loss of income and $250,000 for future loss of income.
