Ottawa Teacher Darren Green Convicted of Sexual Assault

Sexual Offenders

On October 4, 2021, Ottawa teacher Darren Green was convicted by Justice Sally Gomery of two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference.

The Ottawa teacher will be jailed for eighteen months for sexual assault, followed by three years of supervised probation, during which period he will be required to keep the peace and report to a probation officer. He was also required to comply with the Sex Offender Information Registry Act.

Justice Gomery found that Crown had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Green had sexually assaulted and sexually interfered with CV on two occasions.

During the first occasion, Justice Gomery found that Green had put his hand on CV’s “upper thigh and told her that it was important for teenagers to have physical contact.” He “squeezed her leg, asked her if she was sexually active and how she felt when she was turned on. During this occasion, he moved his hand higher up her leg and reached down on her inner thing before she left the classroom.

On the second occasion, he put his hand on her breast just above the nipple, all the while telling her that she was a very sensitive girl and that she needed someone. CV pushed his hand off, stood up and left the classroom.

Justice Gomery found that Green had groomed CV and that his gradual escalation of intrusions into CV’s personal sphere paved the way for his subsequent sexual touching.

Green’s behaviour has left CV with serious emotional and psychological harm, for which she has had to seek treatment and counselling.
